What Is a Chevy Recall? 

Chevy vehicles go through rigorous inspection processes before they’re sold to ensure that the vehicles we sell keep you safe on the St. Michael roads. Unfortunately, our tests don’t always catch everything. If a vehicle is deemed to have a safety issue that has a high chance of causing accidents, injury, or fatality, the NHTSA or manufacturer (in our case, General Motors) will issue a recall for the vehicle. A “recall”, in this case, means that the manufacturer is required to notify the owners of the model recalled and is responsible for all repairs necessary to bring your Chevy up to the required safety standard. 

What Is the NHTSA? 

The NHTSA, or National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is regarded as one of the highest authorities on automotive safety. They regularly review and rate vehicles based on their safety tests and focus on providing consumers with the most up-to-date information about the safety of their vehicles. If the manufacturer doesn’t catch a safety issue in their own tests, the NHTSA will be the one to initiate a recall when they deem a fault in a vehicle to be serious.

How to Know If Your Chevy Has a Recall

When Chevy recalls are initiated, manufacturers will do their best to alert you via certified mail delivered to your Buffalo home. If you bought your vehicle through a third party or have moved since buying your Chevy, you can always check to see if there’s a Chevy recall by entering your vehicle’s VIN number on the NHTSA recall page or the GM recall page. The search result will let you know whether or not there’s been a Chevy recall on your vehicle and what the recall is for.
